There’s a saying I’ve heard in many different variations. Here’s one I believe was said by Gandhi:
“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”
I already talked about some of these steps, and I will be talking more. But today we’ll discuss changing one particular link of this chain: the habits.
John Maxwell said, “The secret to your success can be found in your daily routine”. So what you and I do on daily basis, which is our habits, will determine how successful we become.
There’s a common belief that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. However this concept is debatable. You see, Dr. Maxwell Maltz, whose book was sold over 30 mil copies, and affected many teachers, from Zig Ziglar to Tony Robbins, wrote in his book, that it takes AT LEAST 21 days to change the pattern. The recent study I found on internet showed that it actually takes 66 days on average to form a new habit. I think it was up to 254 days.
But here’s a good news: if you have a strong “WHY?” behind your actions, it goes much faster and easier. For example, I turned from a total couch potato into dedicated martial artist training daily, literally overnight. And 33 years later I am still in. So the first secret is find out what is it you really want. We’ll talk more about it.
