130 – Programming Information Into Long Term Memory
Let’s talk about long term memory programming.
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are doing Fabulous today. Let’s breathe and smile.
Today is part two of discussion about my memorization techniques.

Yesterday I mentioned flash cards and my way of using them.

One of the main issues I’ve discovered is that people forget the info as easy as they remember. And I was not an exception.
I found the solution in a book. It was talking about programming long term memory, I got this strategy from there and modified it to fit my needs. Here’s what I did.
As I said yesterday, all flash cards I memorized and felt comfortable about, I’d put in a box, where I’d separate them into batches of about 200. I’d take each batch and run it through the process of programming into long term memory, and that process was repetition. Timing between 1st and 2nd repetitions was 12 hours. Between 2nd and 3rd – 24 hours. Then 48 hours, then 4 days, and 8 days. Usually I did not go beyond that. But keep in mind, all these card had to go through the drill of memorizing I told you yesterday before long term programming.
Practically it looked like this: I’d take the batch and go through it, say, in the morning. Next repeat was same day at night. Then – next day at night. Then – two days later at night, and so on, doubling the time. I usually had at least a couple of batches in process, and I kept a schedule so I would not overlap and use time efficiently.
Sometimes I would take the card for a long term programming and realize I forgot it. Guess what, it would go into my deck for a memory drill as I described yesterday.
Too much of a work? Perhaps. But English I’ve learned using this method, has served me well for over 25 years, even though I still have a European accent.
Will it work for you as good as it worked for me? I don’t know. Try it. Feel free to send me any questions or share your experience.
Now let’s breathe and smile. Thanks for stopping by. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
