When I began my training over 30 years ago, one of the main questions was “Why?” Why bother with Yoga? Why worry about nutrition? Why this, why that, and so on. The answer I was giving then, and this is what I’d like to talk about today, everything has a price. The only difference is, are you prepaying now and enjoying the benefits, or are you choosing to enjoy now and later pay with interest?
Does good food look more expensive to you than junk? How about adding a collection of doctors’ bills on the top of your food savings later in your life?
Is regular workout taking too much of your party time? How about sum total of all the hours spent at the medical facilities?
I’ve heard many times people say, “I will worry when I get older.” Well, if I had to describe such an answer in one word, it would be anything opposite to “smart”.
We often take our life for granted without asking what does it cost. I’ve heard the saying, “Make the food you medication unless you want medication become your food.” Think about that, my friend. And it is not just about food and workout. That is about how people live in general, how they handle stress, do they smoke, drink or use drugs?
However, there’s one thing to remember: don’t overdo! This is not a crusade against your own bad habits. I remember I read a yoga teacher’s statement about smoking. He said, don’t force yourself to stop, because psychological damage may be greater than physical benefit. If we are talking about achieving the balance, we need to act in a balanced way.
Hope this makes some sense.
