Today I may be stepping on somebody’s toes again. Sorry, Mindfulness is not always easy. In fact, it can be quite painful, and that’s the reason so many people avoid thinking about it. It is so much easier not to think.
Well, here’s a statement I’ve heard from several quite credible sources: We teach what we know but we reproduce who we are. You know the saying, The apple never falls far from the tree.
Have you heard parents talking about their children to other people in front of their kids? Something like:
“Oh, he is so shy”
“Johnny does not like sports”
“She does not like talking in front of other people”
“Yeah, all they do is watch TV”
or just plain and simple “I don’t think that profession is for you. You don’t have what it takes”
And so on.
I have not met parents who say “I want my children to fail!” Often they are trying to protect them from failing, however majority of the times I think they just don’t know anything better.
You see, by our words and action we may be programming our children to fail. Even if they go to college, get a nice job, and do OK from the society’s perspective. But in reality all they do is join the army of people who walk with empty eye sockets back and forth between home and job, and who never get their dreams fulfilled. Sorry, I am getting a bit emotional here, because this was not the future I came to the US for.
The education of our children is not just responsibility of the school. It is a duty of the parents. And it starts with educating parents about success principles. I salute those who find what they are passionate about and chase their dreams. I greatly respect coaches that teach people how to dream, and how go achieve those dreams. And I admire those who take control of their own thinking and become a role model for their kids.
Think about that. Chances are, you may need some tune up in the way you think. I know I still have a lot to do in that department. I told you I might be a bit hard today. But actually the only butt I am kicking is my own.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
