Now, What is fear? No, I am not going into psychology of the process.
I heard the acronym FEAR that stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear is not real. I heard the saying that I like, “I’ve never been bitten by a shadow of a barking dog.” Huh! Think about that!
On the other hand, fear is a great example of what I’ve been talking about many times: our brain can make anything look real. I read about an experiment in which a person was asked to push a small object on the floor forward from his feet without moving feet. The distance was measured, and they they repeated the same test standing on the edge of the roof of the 5-story building. The distance was significantly shorter. The body just refused to work.
Yes, fear is not real, but the brain makes it real. It may freeze the body, paralyze the muscles, and stop the thought process.
However, fear can be overcome. But the only way to do it is by action. My teachers and my coaches told me, “every day do something you are afraid of.” It does not have to be a whole lot, but I try to do something that stretches me out of my comfort zone. We’ll talk more about that.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
