032 – Daily mindful steps: Perfectionism vs Excellence in our Life
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. I hope you are doing great in your corner of the World! Let’s start new day with a deep breath and a smile!
I’d like to talk today about perfectionism vs excellence

As you may know, I grew up as a perfectionist. Everything had to be perfect. I graduated from the high school with all “A”s.
“What’s wrong with that?” you may ask? Well, each coin has two sides.
Perfectionism has no room for mistakes. Excellence welcomes mistakes as stepping stones.
Perfectionism cannot tolerate criticism from others, excellence loves to learn.
Perfectionism cannot tolerate failure, excellence gets up and keeps going.
Perfectionism is criticizing, excellence is encouraging.
Perfectionism brings fear of failure, excellence brings an excitement of adventure.
And finally, perfectionism often gives up easily on things that cannot be achieved with a straight line approach. As a kid, I did not do many kid’s activities, maybe because I was not perfect at them, and I was so afraid being criticized by other kids. So I’d rather do something that I was sure I was perfect at. And I rejected everything else.
Perfectionism is an Ego trip. It sets unrealistic expectations and blinds people not letting them see other opportunities.
My friends, I hope you set your goals directed by excellence, not perfectionism. How to do it? I will be talking about that later.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
