There is an ancient game that exist in many countries. In the US it is known as paper-rock-scissors game. Perhaps everybody knows it. But today we will look at this game as a manual to our daily communication.
People often ask, should I be strong? Or should I be soft? If I stand my ground, then when should I yield? Or should I?
Well… Today I am not going into discussion of specific details regarding what position you should take. This is a very long, ever-going process of learning. You can spend your entire life in fact, trying to learn how to deal with people, and in most of the cases, how to deal with yourself. But one thing I am certain about is that you have to learn how to change.
Many people have heard about Chinese five elements. I really see them as five stages of being. Just like paper-rock-scissors combination. You cannot always be hard as a rock, because there’s always paper somewhere that will wrap around you. The faster you can change into the element appropriate for the circumstances, the more flexibility and adaptability you will have in life.
This is what my teacher taught me, and this is what I will tell you today: You cannot be too hard, because hard can be broken. You cannot be too soft, because soft can be bent. You have to be able to adjust.
This is what I am trying to develop and perfect in me. This is what I teach at my class. Hope to see you there one day. Until then, watch, observe, and learn to change.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
