Today is Friday, at least when I release this episode. So I will try be easy.
I think many people, including yours truly, have experienced moments when thoughts are getting out of control. Something is boggling our mind, and we cannot stop thinking about it. What can we do?
Meditation often does not work in such cases. It may actually aggravate us instead. So I would suggest physical activity. Sometimes the best solution is find a punching bag and beat the.. whatever.. dust our of it. And that’s OK. That was what my teacher suggested.
Let’s say the adrenalin is not that high, or we lowered it by punching the bag. But we still have too many thoughts, and that is disturbing. Physical activity may come very handy in this situation again. This is something you have to find for yourself. It may be drumming, or playing another music instrument. My grandma used to play guitar and sing.
Some housework can be helpful, and very useful by the way. Garden work.
Creative work. I love crafts, I’ve done every possible thing I could find and learn. For me this is a good escape. I even read that knitting or crochet is a great Zen practice. You may try it. I did. I also love making jewelry, but my favorite escape as a teen was, you may never believe it, making fishing nets.
There are many different tools used in meditation, like singing bowls, bells, wooden fish mokugyo, or just walking. I used walking myself. Now, pay attention! Here’s a key. I would find a pace that would balance the strength of my emotions. Once I found it, I’d slow down thoughts and emotions by slowing down movement and breathing. Does it make sense? Well, stick around, we’ll talk more about that.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org. Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
