Two Minutes About Being Mindful Parents:
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are having a magnificent morning! Let’s breathe and smile.
Do you have kids? I have two. I remember years ago when I was learning how to make my house a safe place for kids, it was suggested to get down on hands and knees so we could look around the room from the children’s perspective and see what they could see. Because when we are looking from our perspective, from our height, we don’t see what they see, and they don’t see what we see, no matter how we try. They need to grow up before they get an adult’s perspective, right? This is quite obvious.
I think this what also happens in our communication with kids, though it is not always that obvious to us. And this is where we can make some serious mistakes. I know I’ve done. Have you?
John Maxwell mentioned in his book the interview with Paul Rees over 30 years ago. Somebody asked Paul a question what would he do if he had a chance to go back in time. Paul answered, “If I could go back to my days as a young father, I would work harder on seeing things through my children’s eyes.”
As adults we often are trying to tell our kids what we see and what we know. We grow up, and we see many things from a different perspective. We get some life experience and some wisdom, all right. However, in a process of growing up, we often forget where we came from. We forget how we saw the World as kids.
I know I need to work more on learning to see other people’s perspective before telling them what I see. Especially dealing with kids.
Here’s a book I was talking about. You can get a FREE audiobook from Audible through Amazon:
