Mindful Laziness… Yes, Being Lazy!
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are having a terrific morning! Let’s breathe and smile.
When I was growing up, calling somebody lazy was not the nicest label to give. I think it is still true today. But let me change your perspective a bit.
One of the proverbs in our Martial Art School is taking about two monks who met on the trail. They started talking, their conversation eventually shifted to the topic of work and leisure.
One monk said that hard work is the only honorable skill among people. It can sure give them anything they want.
The other monk stated that people appreciate leisure more than work.
At that moment monks saw the farmer, and they ask him help them to resolve their dispute.
“Do you like your work?” the first monk asked.
“I do,” the farmer answered. “But people don’t appreciate it. I work hard and get paid a little.”
“If you had a chance to work or not work and get paid the same,” the second monk asked, “what would you choose?”
“Ha ha,” the farmer said, “I would choose what any other person would.”
The first monk did not want to give up. He asked, “Wouldn’t you like to live in the World where everybody loved to work?”
“If everybody loved working,” the farmer answered, “nobody would really care to make the work easier. No, I would not like such a World.”
My friend, laziness, as negative as it sounds, is one of the main engines of true progress. If nobody wanted to be a bit lazier, the wheel would never be invented. There’s a difference between productive and unproductive laziness. My coach said, “Work smart, not hard.”
We’ll talk about that in the future.
Thanks for stopping by.
