The Ancient Fable and Two Lessons About Life

There’s an ancient fable about a Scorpion who came to the river and needed to get across. Scorpions don’t swim well. However he saw a Turtle.
“Can you take me to the other side of the river?” the Scorpion asked.
“You must be out of your mind!” the Turtle replied. “You will sting me, and I will die.”
“I won’t!” promised Scorpion. “If I do we’ll both die.”
It sounded reasonable, and the Turtle agreed. As they were somewhere in the middle of the river, the Scorpion stung the Turtle.
Understanding that now they will drown, the Turtle asked, “Why did you do that?”
“I’m sorry!” the Scorpion replied. “But this is my Nature. This is what I do.”
This is so important, my friends. I have this tendency to trust people, to give them a chance. And unfortunately I’ve been stung by those who I thought were close friends. Almost drowning in the River of Life, I’d think, WHY? And the answer is in the fable: because this was their Nature.
My first point today, the lesson I got was, if I get stung, double-crossed, betrayed by somebody, just remember that it is a Law of Nature. This is who they are. I should do better due diligence before selecting friends, and I failed before. Repeatedly. So really there’s nobody to blame.
Can I trust anybody now? This will be my second point for today.
My coach told me, “Love everybody, believe in everybody, but don’t rely on anyone.” At least not until they prove themselves worthy of my trust over and over again.
There’s a line I have to draw. And I will talk about it in my Mindful Business Course I am putting together. Stay tuned.
Now let’s breathe and smile. Thanks for stopping by. I will talk to you next time.
