I like comparing our mind with a child. When we tell kids not to do something, they will either do it when we’re not watching, or it may create a conflict.
The same happens to our mind. Sometimes we may get a thought. Especially a negative thought. And it just stays in our mind, we cannot get rid of it. The more we try not to think of it, the more we think. Like, don’t think about pink elephant.
Also, if we try to meditate and tell ourselves “I am calm”, the inner voice says “No, I am not!” That brings us back to the topic why meditation may not help in stress.
Like a child, our mind will rebel if we try to push ideas into us without believing that on a deeper level. We simply have to believe what we do. Otherwise we may fall out of program.
Sometimes we may have to make an effort to educate ourselves, so we can see the benefit, and eventually like it. But sometimes we won’t. Just like kids: for goodness sake don’t push them into soccer if they hate every second of it. Find something they like, something they will stick with.
That’s why so many people fall out of training: they try something, they don’t like it, and they never care to try something else.
We cannot push our mind. We can direct it, we can find what is interesting for us, and we can distract it from some unpleasant thoughts. How? I am teaching it in my class. Stick around!
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile, what a good way to distract ourselves!
I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
