Magic Spell for Instant Connection with people!
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you have a terrific day! Let’s breathe and smile.
There’s one common quality I observed in many newly initiated healers, or recently converted christians. Many of them have this great passion for the new purpose of their lives, that they would force it into others whether or not other people want it. It’s like: “You need to hear this now!”
In business or coaching, I think this is very similar. We are trying to force-feed other people with what we think we know. And I am one of the most guilty offenders. When I started practicing Yoga, I thought everybody had to follow the same Path. Until my teacher told me, “Who said you’re right?”
Forcing the idea, no matter how noble it is, will most likely not benefit the communication and connecting with others. It may repel people. Ask me how I know.
What I learned from John Maxwell, we often try to tell others what we see, know and feel before we learn what they see, know and feel. There’s magic formula he’s writing about. That is “Feel, Felt, Found”. I’ve used it when I needed to tell somebody that he or she is wrong. Here’s how it goes.
Whatever concern, complaint, disagreement people have, first of all I’d listen, let them exhaust their emotional pressure. They I’d say,
- “I know that you FEEL this way”
- “Many of other people FELT the same way”
- “But here’s what I FOUND…”
After that I’d go into explanation why I think my suggestion may be better.
It works! Why? Because I take time to listen to people and understand why they feel that way. And people appreciate that. Try it if you haven’t.
Here’s a book I was talking about. You can get a FREE audiobook from Audible through Amazon:
