Today I just want to share an old story about what happened to me many years ago, when I was 12. At that time I was spending summers at my grandma’s house. She was keeping rabbits. People had them to eat. I don’t think I could ever eat a rabbit I was watching growing up. But my job was to cut the grass and bring to feed rabbits, and I was using a sickle to do it. Yes, just like the one on the Soviet Hammer-and-Sicke emblem.
So one Sunday I went to cut grass, and I cut my finger all the way to the bone. No, it did not really hurt. In fact, I was curious to look at my own bone. Huh.
I think it was the second Sunday in June. Why is it so important? As I found out later, on that day we had a very big Orthodox holiday known as the Day of Holy Trinity, which is celebrated on the same day as Pentecost Sunday. My grandma was not a very religious person, but she told me, never work on big Church holidays. And I did. And I cut my finger really good.
That’s just a half of the story. I went to the doctor, and because the cut was rather long, he put one stitch across the wound. And because of inflammation and movement that stitch cut my skin across the original wound. So the scar on my finger looks like a perfect cross. Since then I am trying not to work on big Church holidays. Just in case.
Here’s a picture.. Yes, this is my hand, my mark. What’s a meaning of it?
