Have you ever experienced a Workload Paralysis in your life? I certainly have. That is when people have so many things they need to do, that the brain just shuts down. Like, I don’t know where to start. It’s a total mess, chaos. Those are moments when I have to remind myself that I am not Clark Kent. But I can do things one at a time. And I will get them done, if I keep going of course.
Here’re some tips that worked for me.
– First, prioritize. I think every coach will tell you that. What’s important, or less important, what’s urgent? You may want to put them on the list, most important first. Decide what you need to do to get them accomplished. Write them down.
– Second, prepare the road. And that may be the least important task on the list. But if you have a roadblock, whatever that may be, you have to remove it first. This is when common sense comes into play. What do I need to do to make completing important task possible?
– Do you need to clear your calendar for a while? TV time, for example?
– Take small steps. Often I may do small tasks first to clear the area, or just clean my desk, then start with a big one. My coach told me, dream big, work small. It means, one step at a time.
– Don’t forget to take breaks. You should not ignore yourself. Your health is important. And I am guilty here, I admit. But also I like changing activities. For example, alternate between cleaning my closet, or room, and writing, reading or doing other type of intellectual work. Of course, if there’s no emergency. Use common sense here again.
How to minimize emergencies? We’ll talk about it in the future.
Now let’s breathe and smile. Thanks for stopping by. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
