One of the questions I hear quite often is “How can some people be successful, and others are not?” Well, I used to think, like many people I’ve met, that success is a matter of luck. He got lucky.
Well, here’s a statement that may come as a surprise to some of you: success has very little to do with luck. It simply is a matter of personal decision. Yes, that simple. Is it easy? Sorry to say, no, it is not easy.
In fact, many people may even know how to be successful, but they are not. Why? For the same reason people don’t work out even if they know working out is good. Knowing the path and walking the path are two different things.
Success takes consistent effort. I remember I was listening to John Maxwell, extremely successful Leadership teacher. I read numerous books written by him. And he said, I quote, “I spent my entire life becoming an overnight success.”
There are several decisions we have to make in order to become successful. Perhaps the most important one is a decision to finish. Stephen Covey said, “Begin with the end in mind”. Yes, developing a roadmap and setting goals is very important. Yes, knowing your strengths and weaknesses is quite helpful. Yes, working with a coach can significantly speed up the process. And I will be talking about all these ingredients. But none of them are relevant unless you make a decision to finish what you started. Get ready to do some work. And remember the quote by Vince Lombardi, “The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.”
This is a huge topic, and we’ll be talking more about that.
