Critical Timing in Training:
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you’re having a wonderful morning! Let’s breathe and smile.
Many years ago I read a book by famous Bagua master Park Bok Nam. And in his book he’s talking about interesting concept. He suggested to be aware of four points in our training career, and those are 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months and 3 years.
And I understand that timing is not that precise, but the whole concept made total sense to me.
3 days is the time when everything hurts. That is true whether you are in martial arts or in general fitness. Or maybe you are just learning to play a music instrument. Play guitar, your finger tips will hurt. Or drums, huh!
Next phase is a frustration. Oh yeah! I’ve seen it a lot. And trust me, I’ve experienced that myself. I am just too stubborn to quit. But if you expect to become a master in a week, you may be setting yourself up for some disappointment.
Phase #3 is getting bored. Same-o, same-o day after day. The same move for months. Let me make it easier for you, my friend. To master a technique in martial arts, or in music for that matter, does not take several months. Are you kidding me? It takes years, often decades. My teacher told me that progress in martial arts is measured by 5-year increments. So be patient!
Finally, the last stage is when the person thinks he or she knows everything. So they stop learning and slowly drift away. These are moments when people quit.
Just be aware of these time periods in learning. Keep going. Learning never ends.
If you are in Phoenix, AZ area, I am teaching Qigong in Scottsdale, and I am planning to open another Qigong group and perhaps even martial arts conditioning and energy work. Make sure to send me a message.
Thanks for stopping by. I will talk to you next time.
