Yes, there’s such a phenomenon. I’ve heard it multiple times from various coaches.
What it is, if you put a crabs in a bucket, one can escape pretty easy. Crabs have claws, they can easily crawl out. What happens if you put several crabs in a bucket? Well, people say that crabs pull each other down and don’t let other crabs escape.
The significance of this example is that we have people around us who act just like crabs in a bucket. I know I’ve met plenty of those.
“Why do you need to study? Why are you working out on holiday? Come on, let’s go party instead. Who do you think you are?” And the list can go on and on. Most of the time, these statements are coming from out closest friends and even relatives.
The reason for this kind of behavior is simple: If I cannot have something because I am lazy and I don’t have a discipline to pursue my dreams, then you cannot have it either. So we better both stay in a bucket.
But let me ask you, my friend, do your advisors have a lifestyle you would like to have? If they don’t why should you listen? I know I will be responsible for my actions, not my advisors.
Remember this every time somebody gives you an advice. Be mindful about your own decisions, your actions and your own life. Don’t let anybody steal your dream.
I will be talking more about it this week, so stay tuned!

Jin
