154 – Core Values: Importance of Predictable Moves in Unpredictable Environment
Let’s talk about Core Values.

Let me ask you a question: what are you known for? Say, if somebody’s making a statement about you, like, “this person is [BLANK]“, what is in the blank?
I read a great book by Terri Savelle Foy called “The Leader’s Checklist”. She is talking about setting core values. She’s talking about acronym TIES: Timeliness, Integrity, Excellence and Smiles. Those are her core values. Do you have yours?
Life becomes much easier very quick when we have our core values set. This is something we don’t violate willingly no matter what. Will you please everybody? No you won’t. In fact you will repeal some people, and may lose some of your friends. But trust me, you will attract many other people who will help you to reach your goals. Because even in the midst of chaos you become easy to work with.
However, even with your core values set, you don’t have to be rigid. Look at water, for example. It is flexible and persistent. No matter what happens, we pretty much know what to expect from water, and it will always be water regardless of the shape of the vessel it’s in. You cannot compress water. And it is very, very hard if you hit it flat with your belly jumping into the ocean off the pier.
I like punctuality. And flexibility. And persistence. And I don’t drink alcohol in social settings, period. Or any settings. That’s just me 🙂
I’d love to hear from you: if you have your core values, what are they? Send me a note.
