013 – Balance Is Key To Relaxation. Stress And Pendulum Effect
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. I hope you are doing great in your corner of the world! Let’s take a breath, smile and think about something positive.
Today I want to talk about staying centered. How?
In my classes I teach what I call Pendulum Effect. What is it?

Imagine a pendulum. If you let it just hang, it is pointing straight down. Always. It is centered. It is balanced.
Now, what if we grab that pendulum and take it off center by hand? For as long as we hold it, it will be in balance. It will appear to be in balance, but it will stay that way for as long as we hold it. And if we let it go, it will swing.
The key to the pendulum effect is that it will not just swing to come to the center again. It will swing to the other side, way past the middle point. As I call it, pendulum will over-correct. And it will swing back and forth for a while until it finally returns to the balance.
I find this rule important because I see so many people fall into that. We all have a tendency to over-correct. We can see physical manifestation of this principle every day, whether it is riding skateboard, walking on the rope or fighting in martial arts.
We also can observe it in every day people’s behavior. Why do you think they call it mood swings? Sometimes people make decisions that seem to be illogical. But they actually often can be explained by this pendulum effect.
I will be talking about some dangers this pendulum effect can produce, and that is related to many popular diets and training systems. So stay tuned. But the thought of the day is don’t try to force yourself into balance. Let it hang lose, and you will find the center, just like the pendulum does. Hope this helps.
On my web site hpln.org you will find the schedule of classes I teach, as well as links to my audio and video channels.
Thanks for tuning in! Now let’s breathe, smile and hang lose.
I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
