I remember many years ago I’ve heard the statement that all genius things are very simple. People have an incredible ability to make things difficult. Every second we have numerous options we can choose from. But our mind often does not like to stay in the present. We start thinking several steps ahead, creating basically an infinite number of possibilities. If we are not careful, this can build up really fast, and we get trapped in our own thinking.
Einstein said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” This is so Zen! I am always amazed by how simple masters can make things look like. There’s a famous Zen saying: “Before you study Zen, mountains are mountains and rivers are rivers; while you are studying Zen, mountains are no longer mountains and rivers are no longer rivers; but once you have had an enlightenment, mountains are once again mountains and rivers again rivers.”
You see, famous Zen enlightenment is a person’s ability to see things the way they are. Uncomplicated. The grass is just grass.
I remember listening to Dr. Hammerschlag, and he was talking about his meeting with at great shaman in South America, if I am not mistaken. Or maybe Mexico. He asked the shaman, what would be his best advice as a healer. The shaman said, never drink cold water on empty stomach.
“Why?”
“Because it will give you bad belly, and with bad belly you cannot heal well”
Quite often we are trying to come up with complicated solutions to the problems that exist nowhere except in our mind. And I admit I am the worst when it comes to complicating things. I am working on that, all right! Are you? Think about it, my friend!
