Today I will continue with the topic I started yesterday. That was about mistakes we make in self-talk. And today we’ll talk about mistake number 2: making wishy washy self-talk statements.
When we are using positive affirmations, they need to be kind of assertive, positive and articulated in a present tense, just like it is already happening.
Let’s say, for example, somebody needs to start going to the gym. Here’s a positive self-talk message: “I need to go to the gym at least 3 times a week!” Yeah! Great message, isn’t it?
Here’s what may happen. While the person is stating “I need to start going to the gym”, his mind gives him a reality feedback: “but you are not going now”. So this affirmation is nothing but a nice wish. To become useful in the campaign against our own emotional inertia and disbelief, we need to make it sound like “I am going to the gym 3 times a week”.
This makes our mind believe it, as I told you before. Besides, any time we start developing a new habit, the most difficult part is the beginning. You might’ve heard that it takes 21 days of consistent efforts to form a habit. Trick with positive affirmation makes us feel inside like we already took the first step, and now it will be much easier to continue with the program.
I will be talking more about various techniques we can use. So stay tuned.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org. Now let’s take a deep breath and say out loud, if you can, “Today is a wonderful day!” And I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
