About 33 years ago I was at the hospital where doctors were trying to identify a reason for my headaches. I already told this story in 11-minute podcast.
Here you can listen to my previous episode about autogenic training
Doctors did not succeed, again, but while I was trying to fall asleep in extremely uncomfortable bed, I remembered that I read about something called Autogenic Training. I tried it, it worked, I really liked it, and that was how my whole life was changed. That was a reason I got into Yoga, and other cool things. I am not going to repeat that entire talk.
The Autogenic Training was created by German psychiatrist Dr. Schultz. That is basically a set of affirmations designed to bring our body and mind to the state of relaxation. It has absolutely no religious or philosophical component.
The system consists of statements like
“My hands are getting heavy and warm”
“My forearms are getting heavy and warm”
“My shoulders are getting heavy and warm”
and so on. Simple, but that really works. Autogenic Training has been prescribed by psychiatrists. It has been used by olympic athletes. It can be tailored to address various psychosomatic conditions.
The system originated mainly from Yoga. This is why I got interested in Yoga in a first place. Now Yoga Nidra becomes very popular. You can practice that, or you may try Autogenic Training for daily 10-15 min use. They are basically the same.
I will be talking more about that and even showing in a video, so stay tuned.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
