When I first came to the US in 1995, I expected to see nothing but high-rises. My whole idea about America came out of watching action movies. Where does the action usually happen in those movies? New York, Chicago, downtown San Francisco or LA. So that was what I expected when I came. Guess how big was my surprise? Not just me, many other people who come to the US, experience the same shock. Where are high-rises?
I hope this makes you smile. But the point I wanted to make is that television shapes people’s perception. I’ve seen so many people who learned about martial arts, yoga, meditation and even secret agent stuff from movies. They think it is real. And they refuse to accept that TV is showing nicely choreographed moves designed to capture viewers’ attention.
I used to try to rebuttal before, but I stopped doing that over 20 years ago. Believe whatever you believe. Trying to change somebody’s believe is not a part of my philosophy. All I am trying to say today is that intelligent people make educated decisions.
If somebody offers you to try a meditation, or yoga, or Qigong, or whatever, don’t just assume that what you might have seen in a nice movie is actually what it is, though it may reflect some truth to some degree.
On the other hand, if somebody is telling me opinion about any training system, diet, or whatever, my first question is, for how long have you done it? Oh, you didn’t? Well, this ends of the story and that person’s credibility on a particular subject. This applies to many other areas of life, not just training. We’ll be talking more about this.
Thanks for tuning in! Hope you subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
