About Mindful Dreaming…
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope life is terrific in your corner of the World! Let’s breathe and smile.
I will continue with this mini series, and today we’ll talk about meditation on what did not happen.
Well, you may say, it is called fantasizing, or daydreaming. Not so fast! Today’s exercise is intentional, not just wandering around in your dreams.
This method of meditation has been used by ancient warriors to develop certain skills. Especially, if those skills could not be rehearsed prior to performing. So before going to his assignment, the warrior would meditate and imagine every step with as many details as he could. So once he got there, he’d be at least partially ready to do it. Of course, more meditation, better experience would create bigger variety of possible scenarios and minimize the unexpected. But like everything, it takes practice.
We can see examples of similar practices in today’s world.
Shadow boxing is a very popular type of practice. The fighter is training with imaginary opponent, creating and solving in his own mind possible combinations.
I heard from one of my business coaches that he was coming up with possible scenarios of his conversations with different people, and he was practicing it talking to himself while driving his car.
Napoleon Hill wrote a book, “Think and Grow Rich.” Perhaps every life or business coach will say, that you got to see it before you achieve it. That is called Vision. It is seeing something we did not achieve yet. That is meditation on what did not happen. We just tell our brain that it’s already done. And our brain believes it and makes it happen, because our brain cannot tell the difference between reality and imagination.
Very powerful technique! And very useful. Make sure you try it.
Thanks for stopping by.
