Exactly one year ago, on June 15th last year, I released my very first episode of Morning Mindfulness. So today’s episode is one year anniversary edition.
I think it is a good time to remind what mindfulness really is. Because I think some people may have a different definition, not what I am using in my program.
Mindfulness is a western term using the word “Mind” as a root. I think it was created to replace the word Meditation, which many people mistakenly connect exclusively with Eastern practices. So in order to avoid religious confusion, the word Mindfulness was created. Which literally means the same.
Mindfulness is the state of awareness of a present moment. Whatever you do, you put your mind in a present moment. Therefore, you may sit on a yoga mat, you may walk, you may drive, you may swim. But you keep your mind in the present moment, concentrating on what you are doing.
It is not talking about what others did good or bad. I call it judgment.
And it is not discussing what could’ve been if… whatever that is. We can call it speculation.
It is not getting upset about what’s not getting done our way. Even though our Ego wants us to believe that we have control. Most of people’s lives manifest humongous ego. And trust me, I am in a bunch and I still have long way to go.
So, what is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is about being present. It is not about becoming a guru. It is about realizing that we are already where we need to be at this moment.
I really appreciate everybody who’s been listening. I mean it. I appreciate your questions and comments. I am not teaching. I am just sharing my life, which is not perfect by any means. But you may join me and we’ll enjoy the Present together. And the moment is perfect for that. It is called Now.
