Mindful Memories…
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you’re having a Magnificent Monday! Let’s breathe and smile.
Today is the Memorial Day in the US, and I’d like to have a word about it. I may be a little bit hard on somebody, sorry for that.
You may ask, “Jin, what do you have to do with an American Holiday?”
I’m glad you asked! You see, over 20 years ago I came to the US with $500 I borrowed from my brother. I was not escaping my country, nor was I looking for an asylum. I came to check it out, I saw the opportunity and I thought I’d just try my luck. And I did.
People often ask me, “How do you like it in the US?” I answer, there’re things I like, and there things I may choose to complain about. Like any other place on the Earth. There’s a Russian saying, “A pig will find dirt everywhere.”
One thing I cannot tolerate is when I hear other immigrants start complaining about what’s wrong with the US, and how things were good back in their country. Really? Then what are you doing here?
I am a US citizen. Nobody dragged me or twisted my arm. I chose that. I made my home here. And I salute those who gave their lives so you and I, and our kids can have a home.
You may not relate to this holiday at all. But wherever you live, do you remember those you owe your life to? Sitting in front of TV, drinking 6-pack and complaining about what’s wrong, won’t fix anything. Changing ourselves, becoming the change we’d like to see, transforming the World one person at a time, will.
No, our World is not perfect. But people gave THEIR lives so you and I can enjoy ours. It’s up to us to make sure they did not die for nothing. Think about that.
Thanks for stopping by.
