Premature Decisions and Premature Judgments…
“Beware of Forming quick judgments.” 1 Cor. 4:5
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you’re having a magnificent morning! Let’s breathe and smile.
Have you ever jumped out of the airplane with a parachute? Yes and No are both correct answers.
Would you jump out of the airplane if I offered you? And you may like it or not. I’ve met plenty of people in both camps. But before you make your final decision, I should mention one small detail you may want to know. I will give you $1 mil. if you jump even if you’re afraid.
For those of you who thinks $1M is not enough, how about 2? Or 3? Or 5? What’s your number?
Oh, one small detail you may need to know before making final decision. Even though I asked you about parachute first, the jump I am offering $5M for, will be without a parachute. Sorry, forgot to mention. I hope you did not assume anything, did you?
How about $10M for jumping out of the airplane without a parachute?
No? For some reason I have not met anybody who’d say yes. OK, case closed.
Oh, I forgot one tiny detail. The airplane is standing on the runway. You didn’t assume I’d ask you to commit a suicide, did you?
I don’t remember where I read about this psychological trick, but it was used to demonstrate how our mind creates the rest of the picture based on our imagination. We tend to think up the rest of the story to fill in the missing parts without even thinking about it.
Most of us won’t be jumping out of the airplane. But we make life changing decisions, and we judge others based on our assumptions. That may be dangerous, my friend. And I believe, it has little to do with mindfulness. Think about it.
Thanks for stopping by.
