Strong opinions of “They”
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are having an amazing day! Let’s breathe and smile.
When I was growing up, there was one major trend among teenagers. That was “What would my friends think about me?” I think this is still going on.
Since I was an introverted perfectionist, I did not participate in any activities or games my classmates participated. I don’t know if it was my perfectionism that did not allow me to look sloppy in the area where I knew I had zero experience; or maybe it was my ego telling me “You know you’ll look stupid there, your friends will laugh at you!” Maybe it was a combination of both. I cannot analyze myself. You know, like they say, “Pig don’t know pigs stink.”
And this will be my reminder today. Not pigs, but the saying “like they say.” This is a reflection of today’s society in general.
“They told me I had to do that..” or
“They don’t think I got what it takes.” or
“What will they say?”
Too many people will tell you, my friend, what you can and cannot do, how you should live your life.
Who are “They”? How credible this “Committee of They” is? Do They have the life what you’d like to have? Do They live their lives the way you’d like to live?
Did they do what you are trying to do?
They will get in your way. They will give you advices. They will criticize, and they will judge.
I know. I’ve met plenty of these bullies on my way. But I also met some men who told me, “I have a dream too. I’ve been where you are now. I fought similar battles. I have scars all over my body. And I believe in you.”
That’s priceless, my friend.
Think about it. Choose your advisers wisely.
