What is a “real” Loud Talk in our life?
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Let’s start this magnificent day with a breath and a smile.
Many years ago I was at the large business function. We had a guest speaker, a man around 70. He had some obvious difficulty walking on the stage. Once he got to the microphone, I realized that he had really hard time speaking. I could not understand half of what he was saying. His voice was rather quiet and muffled. No wonder he and an assistant with him to help communicating.
As we found out, the man was born with a cerebral palsy. Nobody wanted to deal with a half paralyzed man, and only his unstoppable persistence landed him a job as a salesman at a large company. He could not drive. It was taking for him 2 hours to get dressed in a suit every morning with the help from the staff at the nearby hotel. Then he was spending day covering the worst territory where nobody wanted to work, and finishing every evening typing his orders on a typewriter with one finger. That’s all he could do. He had been doing this decade after decade. He became the best. His name was Bill Porter.
In today’s society, we like making profound statements. We like fantasizing, day dreaming. Let’s do that, let’s change the world. But when the reality of life hits, what happens?
Got sick and feel weak? Hit the foot and can’t walk? Got zit on the rear and having hard time sitting in the car? Oh what?
I am not pointing at you, I am in a bunch.
But one thing I learned from Bill Porter, we don’t need to speak to be heard. No loud talk. We just get up and quietly do what needs to be done. Actions will speak louder than any words. Think about it.
Here’s a couple of links to a book and a movie about Bill Porter.
DISCLAIMER: I am not affiliated in any way with Bill Porter or with the company he was working for.
