Let’s talk about Failing… Successful Failing!
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are having a magnificent morning! Let’s breathe and smile.
I just finished talking about 4 personality types last week. As I said, my personality is a mix of phlegmatic and melancholic. While I think these are great types, being a perfectionist has not always been the most productive skill I’ve got.
The main issue with being a perfectionist, IMHO, is very small room for error. In fact, I grew up thinking that my every step had to be absolutely perfect with no deviation from a blueprint. What do you expect? I grew up with a micrometer in my hand. For example, if something had to be made, say, 3.7mm thick, then anything different would be just a sloppy job. In my mind, of course.
All my actions had to fit a certain schedule with no room for error. Any deviation was not acceptable. To me, of course.
It took me a while to learn the difference between excellence and perfection. And here’s one thing I’d like to mention today. Did you know that a flying missile is off about 95% of the time? That’s right! The missile that has a very precise target is 95% failing! However, the internal device is constantly checking and making adjustments.
This is how we operate too, whether we are walking, riding a bike or driving a car. We constantly adjust. This is how we work as well, just keep this in mind. We do, fail, adjust and keep going. Just make sure you make these tiny corrections every day.
The best book about the power of every day activity I read is called
“Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson
