Best Conversation Skill
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are having a fabulous day. Let’s breathe and smile.
Last time I started the topic of becoming an expert communicator, and today I will elaborate on it a little bit.
Communication is so crucial for any business and for personal life. So unless you plan to move to the desert island, I’d suggest you learn how to to connect to people.
And here’s a skill I found to be the most crucial when I am talking to people. That skill is… listening. Yes! People love talking about themselves. Let them do it.
Here’s what important: while listening make sure you are hearing what the other person is saying. Putting “Aga” face and being distracted by other things, like smart phone, or doing something and not paying attention, won’t do the magic.
I had to learn this skill, and I am still a work in a progress, far from being perfect.
John Maxwell told us that when he was already The John Maxwell, he had to spend 3 years practicing listening because his staff member told John that he was not listening. He was a great speaker, big visionary, but he did not listen. I think both you and me can benefit from this reminder.
Try to hear what the person is saying. Be genuinely interested, because people do have quite interesting things to say. Ask question, find things in common. That is called connecting. Try it if you haven’t done it.
These are links to some books I recommend.
1.“Everybody Communicates, Few Connect” by John Maxwell – has a FREE audio version
2. “Dynamic People Skills” by Dexter Yager
3. “Skill with People” by Les Giblin
Thanks for stopping by. I will talk to you next time.. about another communication mistake.
