Long-long time ago my teacher and I were practicing outside in a big park, and we did it for 3 hours every day. There was also another group of people practicing some kind of martial art. They did it slow, perhaps just for health reasons. It was quite obvious that their teacher did not really know much, and he was often reading some notes and then giving students instructions.
Sure enough, I told my teacher about that, and he said, “I noticed. But think about the alternative. All those people might be on the street doing God know what. At least this keeps them out of trouble.”
I remember another episode when a severely overweight guy was running in the same park where we were practicing. It was hard for him, I could tell from the distance. His body movement looked less than attractive. I don’t remember what kind of a stupid comment I made, but I remember my teacher said, “This guy deserves more respect than you and I together.”
My teacher taught me to look at every action, every event from a different perspective. We jump into conclusions based on our own experience. But what I learned from my teacher, we’ll never know the whole story behind the other person’s actions. So stop judging, mind your own business. Keep in mind that every event could’ve had an alternative, everything you see has a flips side. And the ugliest looking guy with a dorky smile may be going through battles in life that you and I won’t even comprehend. Think about that.
Thanks for tuning in. Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
