So many people I’ve met in my life have past they wish has never happened. And you can count me in. Yes, I have things in my past I wish have never happened. But past is past, and we cannot change it. We have to live with it.
There are several things I’ve used to deal with my memories.
One of them, of course, is the statement that I cannot change what happened. I am living NOW. I can only change what will happen by my actions today. Does it help all the time? No, it doesn’t. But my odds are better if I keep telling that to myself compared to if I don’t. Makes sense?
Second, I will never know the alternatives. Somebody may say, why didn’t God prevent this from happening? But how do you know He didn’t? Maybe what happened to you or me is in fact an easy alternative or what could’ve happened if nobody interfered?
Keeping the anger or guilt inside will not help. Ask me how I know. I read the statement that we need to forgive not because the other person deserves forgiveness, but because we deserve peace.
Some people call it karma. You got what you got because of something you did. Well, it may be so. Or maybe this is a test to take us to the next level? We don’t know, we just have to choose what we believe. Often people pray for something great in their lives. What messes them up is the opportunity that comes in the form they don’t expect. I believe the challenges may be an excellent time to change the course of actions to receive what we were praying for. Are you ready?
There’s a meditation technique in our school. It is called Traveling along the threads of Life. We can meditate on what happened, and go in the past along the chain of events. We cannot change the past, but we can change the attitude to the past by showing ourselves how much good in our life happened as a result of the past events.
Try to think about something you consider not good, my friend, and find at least one thing that is good today as a result of that past. Send me an email and let me know.
