After several decades of practice I came to interesting conclusion: many people have no idea what martial arts are about. First what many people answer is martial arts are all about fighting. Well, can you say that Christianity is all about standing on your knees? Can you say that Buddhism is all about ringing the bell?
Martial arts are about developing inner balance. Yes, there’s interaction with a partner that some people perceive as fighting. However I’ve been observing every day conversations – at the store, or at the office, or just between neighbors – that have much more violence then any of the martial arts I’ve seen.
Martial arts are about peace, balance and respect to each other. That’s why I am passionate about teaching how to use basic martial art principles in every day communication and for handling the conflicts. Physical and emotional interaction between people are very similar.
No, no, we are not fighting at the workshop. But it is much easier to understand psychological mechanism of stress from physical point of view. They are basically the same.
What I’d like you to take out of todays talk, is that stress is only possible when two opposite forces are present. If you are totally relaxed, your opponent’s punch won’t do much of a damage. This is martial arts. And if you are not reacting to circumstances, then stress is not possible. You see how similar they are?
I hope this makes sense. I will be making several episodes about stress handling and principles of communication. So come back.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
