071 – Goals and Obstacles: What are you focusing on?

Today I would like to offer a simple exercise. You may want to do it when you are not driving the car, of course.
Take your index finger and hold it in front of your eyes about 1 foot away. Now look at the tip of your finger. Can you see it? Yes, you may need to use your glasses. Notice that when you are looking at the finger, everything behind becomes blurry. However, if you look at the distant objects, the finger becomes blurry. Cool, isn’t it?
This what happens in our every day life. Distant objects represent our goals, and the finger – obstacles. If we concentrate on the obstacles, we loose the sight of our goals. Well, they may be still there, but they are not clear. However, if we keep our eyes on the goal, the obstacles become blurry. We still see them, but they are not really in the way.
That’s one of the reasons we look forward, and not right in front of the car, when we drive.
We may shift the sight back and forth to do some check up or develop strategies. Just remember, keeping your eyes for too long on the obstacle may destroy your vision of the goals. That’s something to keep in mind for the daily mindfulness practice.
Thanks for tuning in! You can subscribe to my podcast on my site HPLN.org.
Now let’s breathe and smile, and keep our eyes on the goal. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
Jin
