#7 – How can we define Right and Wrong? Or can we really?
Today I’d like to briefly talk about definitions of right and wrong. But before we begin, let me say a disclaimer.
First, I won’t even try to fit — in a short podcast — the topic which has been a source for major arguments and discussions since the beginning of mankind. Second, I will only try to briefly describe what I studied and what I believe in. Finally, Tao is something that cannot be expressed in words. Everything I say is just a reflection, a snap shot of my thoughts at the moment I said it.
Taoism is a very unique philosophy in a way that it does not have a single origin. According to historians, early Taoism originated from shamanism, a very nature-oriented belief system. And I am not talking about Lao Tzy and his manuscript Tao Te Ching, but rather about much earlier roots of this philosophy.
In one of my previous episodes, I was talking about the origin of Shou Dao, the school I am studying, the way I learned it. And according to my teacher, it came from Europe at least a couple of thousands years ago, and it merged with early Taoism since both philosophies were quite similar.
What does it have to do with today’s topic? Well, Nature-oriented philosophy does not define right or wrong. There is nothing right or wrong in Nature. Everything is the way it is. And humans are the only species who took the liberty of defining what is right and what is wrong according to their standards. But who’s definition is it? Who created the beginning?
