Today I’d like to talk about the famous doctrine that I believe will greatly benefit anybody’s yoga, meditation or mindfulness practice. And life in general. You may be even already familiar with it. That is a finger pointing at the Moon.
The Moon is the image of that Supreme Truth that followers are seeking. You see, the World has numerous philosophies, religions or other teachings that people follow and believe. However sometimes the teacher, not the philosophy, becomes a point of attention.
I read about a temple in Japan that has a statue of a finger pointing at the Moon instead of a Buddha statue. That is just a reminder: don’t worship the finger. Quit staring at it. Look at the Moon, that is where the finger is pointing at. Forget the finger, forget the teachers, forget scriptures, words and dogmas. Words can be used to point in a right direction. But don’t get attached to those words. Look beyond them. Try to see what those words are describing.
Your heart and that Moon are two things that need to be connecting. And that is completely up to you, not up to that finger. After all, you will discover that there are thousands of fingers pointing at the same Moon. Think about that.

Now let’s breathe and smile. I will talk to you next time.
PEACE!
