A friend in need is a friend indeed… I think many people know this old saying. Yesterday I was talking about crabs in a bucket, and today I’d like to take it one step further. I will discuss the other side of the coin, so to speak, even though I may step on somebody’s toes.
Many years ago my teacher said, that people forgive us our mistakes and failures much easier than our success. This totally makes sense. And several decades later I experienced that myself. What a great lesson to remember, even though at the moment it was not fun at all.
The philosophy is simple. My coach told me that there are two ways to have the tallest building in a city: build yours taller or destroy other buildings. Unfortunately 95% of people are not ready to build, and anybody who does becomes a threat to the ego of the rest. That’s why more often than not, people who build their success become instant enemies to their so called friends. There’s even saying, if you stick your head above the crowd, get ready to receive a tomato. Hah!
There are many qualifiers for being a friend. The one I’d like to bring up today is that a real friend will never criticize your dreams. Suggestions – yes. Valid concerns – yes. Discussions – yes. Constructive criticism – yes. Negative, destructive comments – no. The real friend will support your dreams and goals, and real friend will be happy for your success.Keep this in mind, my friend!
