I remember it since I was a kid. Fun story, many movies were made. But today I’d like to discuss what I call “Robin Hood Syndrome”.
According to the story, Robin Hood met Little John on the bridge. They both wanted to cross the river, and the bridge was just a fallen tree, not wide enough for both of them to cross simultaneously. Both of them demanded to have the right to cross first, neither one wanted to yield. John had a stick, so Robin got off the bridge, got himself a stick too, and then returned to the bridge to fight with John.
I understand, this is an alpha male thing. Of course it is so important to prove who’s the toughest dude in the forest. But also, in my humble opinion, this is total waste of time and energy.
How often are we trying to prove something that does not make any difference? How often are we getting in a fight when nobody, except us, cares about the results? The only thing we are trying to satisfy is our ego.
My humble advice: next time before getting in a fight, or in an argument, answer one question: will it make any difference on the Path of achieving your goals? Don’t just fall into Robin Hood Syndrome. Is your argument productive or is it just a waste? Think about that.
