I remember many years ago I asked my teacher: “Is energy flow real or are we just fooling ourselves?”
“Nobody knows,” he answered. “Perhaps nobody will ever know for sure, but it works and we use it.”
So, is Qigong real? Or is it just a form of a self hypnosis? I can easily feel my hands getting warm and heavy, you cannot argue with that. But is it real?
I get this question from people periodically.
Let me ask you another question: does it really matter?
Let’s pretend for a moment that Qigong is just a form of self-hypnosis, some kind of a trance caused by slow movement, breathing and visualization. Let’s pretend that all those feelings are just our own imagination. What’s wrong with that?
Hypnosis has been used since the beginning of humankind. Psychotherapy, whether in the form of suggestions or hypnosis, is a part of western medicine. Everybody is OK with that. So what’s wrong with relaxing movements and breathing exercises?
My friends, scientists are not questioning is Qigong real or is it not. They are just trying to figure out HOW it works, so somebody can make PhD on that and, of course, monetize ancient techniques. Since they cannot copyright Qigong, they come up with different methods, like method of doctor Blah blah… whoever that is. That is totally great! But don’t deny the origin.
I hope this makes sense.
If you live in Phoenix, AZ, I’d be happy to see you in my class.
