When my dad was young, he went to school to be a sailor. And he did work on the big ship for several years.
I remember, as a kid I asked him, how do yachts sail against the wind? Is it possible? He explained to me that you never go straight against the wind, you go at the angle, and then you keep changing the angle, and advance at a zig zag pattern. He went to explain the science of navigation. I didn’t remember much, but I knew one thing: ships can sail agains the wind easy, if the captain knows what he’s doing.
At that time I was only interested in the physics aspect of sailing. However, not long ago I was listening to the audio by one of our coaches. He was talking about four winds in sailing, and he compared that with how we advance in life and how we can use those winds to our advantage. And I thought I’d share this with you.
My friend, my point is simple. People often sit and wait for the good wind that helps them to get from point A to point B in life.
“Oh, if I only had this or if I only had that.”
I’ve done this myself more times than I like to admit. But the truth of the matter is that it’s irrelevant if circumstances are against us. It is not even that important if we are going through the storm. As long as you know how to sail you can use any wind to your advantage.
And if you don’t know, here’s a good news: you are not alone on the boat. Find yourself a good captain, or a coach in this case. And you will be all right.
