I’d like to tell you the old tale that you perhaps already know. The story is about five blind men walking on the road. “Be careful,” they heard. “Don’t you see an elephant?” No, they did not see it. They were blind. But they asked a man, “please can you let us touch an elephant? We’ve never seen one before, and if we touch it we can get an idea how it looks.”
The owner let them come close to the elephant and touch him. One man touched the trunk, another man touched the ear, the third one touched the leg, the forth was touching the side of the animal, and the last man got the tail.
They thanked the owner and moved on. The problem was they got totally different ideas about what an elephant was, and none of them was correct.
The reason I talk about it is because I see this happening every day. Many people get a partial information about things, and they fill in the blanks with their own imagination. And yours truly is guilty of that too. Yep, I’ve been in the same boat. If we decide to study the subject, eventually we will cure ourselves from our ignorance. And if we don’t study, we may just rob ourselves of the chance to learn. There’s very thin line between temporary ignorance and the permanent deal. Think about it.
My humble advice for today is, don’t jump into assumption. If you want to make an educated decision about anything, study it before you decide. Partial idea may be worse than total ignorance. That’s it for today.
