Beware or Adapted Reality!..
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you’re having a tremendous morning! Let’s breathe and smile.
Many years ago I read a scientific article. Doctors took several volunteers and placed them in a hospital to conduct a very interesting experiment. Each person got special glasses designed in such a way that they were turning the World exactly upside down.
Each person had to wear the glasses 24/7 without taking them off. And as you can imagine, first they could not walk, and they had some serious problems with coordination. I don’t remember how long the experiment was, but eventually their vision was totally restored to normal. Their brain adapted the picture to what they new was normal.
In the second phase, the glasses were taken off. And the process repeated. First, everything was upside down. And eventually the brain flipped the image once again, and everything came to normal. Or I should say, the brain converted it to what it perceived as normal. Here’s a significance of this small detail.
My friend, what if I told you that when you and I are looking at the Society, we don’t necessarily see what it is. We see what our brain tells us to see. So the idiom “Looking through the rose-tinted glasses” is not far from the truth. The glasses in this case are not what we wear in front of the eyes. It is what our brain is using to translate the information. And our brain is being conditioned by TV, Internet, all other sources of media, friends, family members.
I’ll challenge you today!
Don’t always trust your own eyes and ears. Even when you swear you know what you see, just remember, that the World can actually be upside down. And you won’t even notice it because your brain converts it into the image it was programmed to produce. Does it make sense?
Thanks for stopping by.
