How Can We Be Changing Past?
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you’re having a wonderful day wherever you are! Let’s breathe and smile.
Yesterday I was talking about meditation on the Past, or so called Threads of Life. Today let’s discuss how we can change the Past.
Oh no, I am not going to talk about time machine, traveling into the past. I don’t know if I’d ever want to do it. Just imagine you go back, change a tiny thing, and then return just to find out that everything has changed. Your loved ones may not even exist. Would you want it?
What we can do instead, is change our perception of what happened. You see, every coin has two sides. We often see the one that affects us the most. We start thinking about that. And sometimes people don’t even remember what got them upset, but they do remember emotional pain. They remember the feeling.
We cannot change the past. But what we can do is travel into the past in our mind during this meditation on the past. And then we can identify what exactly got us upset. And we can present it to our mind: look, this is what happened, but what you thought was negative at that moment, turned out to be quite positive.
What’s In It For Me?
So in our meditation we go back, identify moments of time when negative emotion originated, and replace it with positive.
Now, listen carefully, I am not promoting home made psychoanalysis or psychotherapy. Leave it to professionals.
But what we can do instead, is to look at some unpleasant events from the past, draw the causality chain, try to identify positive that came out of it and concentrate on positive instead.
Unfortunately, I am well qualified to speak on a subject of past life disaster. And I can testify, this method works. You may want to try it some time.
