About Reliving Past Exercise
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope life is terrific in your corner of the World! Let’s breathe and smile.
Today and two more times after today I will be talking about meditation techniques that are not very widely used. In fact, people perceive meditation as being in the present moment. That is only partially accurate.
The word meditate means think, contemplate. It is just a generic word people picked to call a wide variety of practices.
Today we will talk about meditation on the past.
No-no, I am not asking you to dwell on the past. This is an exercise. Like an ice bucket challenge, all right? You do it during designated time, and you’re aware of what you’re doing.
Some people use a shorter form of it, and they call it “reflecting”. They spend some time in the evening thinking about what happened during the day. It is a review. Learning some lessons.
Sometimes it may be longer than a day. It may be a year. A few years. In our school we call it “threads of life”. We go back in our memory and follow a specific chain of events. There we can review and take some mental notes. We make adjustments if necessary. You know, leading coaches tell us to take lessons from the past mistakes.
Mistakes are Good Teachers!
Our mistakes may hurt at the moment we make them. But a bit later, when it heals, we can go back and reflect. We can learn from them and make adjustments for the future.
Besides, I think this is a good brain exercise to work on recall. We have this information in our brain. We just need to get it out. And we can go and discover as many details as we want. Just to stimulate the brain. Try it some time.
Thanks for stopping by.
