About Opposite Values
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you’re doing great wherever you are! Let’s breathe and smile.
When I was growing up, we had this joke, “What is good for Ukrainian, is death for the pig.” And it was funny at that time, but in reality this joke is reflecting total relativity of values.
Let me give you a short cultural background for this joke. Ukrainians are famous for consuming pig’s fat. You can perhaps call it a national food.
However, as you can imagine, a pig has to die in order to get the fat and meet out of it. Makes sense?
This is not a talk about healthy eating, so please no comments on the diet. I mentioned this joke to bring up the topic of relativity of values in our life.
People have the tendency to jump into conclusions, like “this is good, and this is bad.” Good or bad for whom? Who benefits and who has to pay? Remember, somebody always has to pay in one way or another.
And this is not about food, not about eating animals of being a vegetarian.
It is about everything we do
and everything we label as “good” or “bad”. It is about everything that happens to us. It is about weather. People tend to complain. Oh, it rains again. Hope it rains here soon. But if it did not rain where it did, you and I might have nothing to eat. If it was not that hot in Arizona now, we might experience climate changes on the scale we would not even be able to deal with.
I’m not a scientist, just talking.
My friend, before putting a label GOOD or BAD, why don’t we think, good or bad for whom? And why exactly? We may get a slightly different perspective on life.
Thanks for stopping by.
