About Mindful Rakes…
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope life is great wherever you are! Let’s breathe and smile.
I remember a joke popular when I was a kid. Two guys were working on the farm. One went inside the barn. BANG! BANG! He came out with two black eyes. The second guy went inside to help. BANG! He came out with one black eye and said to his friend, “You’re dumb enough to step on the same rake twice!”
We had a popular saying in Russian, “Stepping on the rake.” Just picture a heavy duty garden rake. What happens if you leave in on the grass with its teeth pointing up, and somebody steps on it? Well, they will either damage their foot, or, the handle of the rake will swing and hit the person stepping on it. Google stepping on the rake, if you don’t know what I am talking about.
My grandma had a house and a big garden with lots of fruit trees, raspberries, etc, so I know exactly what it means.
But in most of cases it is an idiom.
We walk through life, and I must admit, we are not always mindful of our path. We are just walking through life often without thinking. We hope everything’s all right.
What if it’s not? What if there’s a rake in our way? If we are not careful, we will step on it and get hurt. It happens.
But what is a waste of time, is stepping on the same rake again. Meaning, making the same mistake again, not learning from previous experience. I’ve done it, I must admit. That’s why I can say out loud without fear of offending somebody who’s done too, It Is Dumb! Pointing at myself now.
Folks, it’s impossible to avoid every rake in our path. But doing it again is just a waste of energy. Think about it.
