About Dynamic Mindfulness in our Life
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. What a terrific day today is! Let’s breathe and smile.
Most of what I am teaching, in terms of mindfulness practice, stress reduction, meditation, is based on ancient martial arts techniques. Over the years, I’ve had two major arguments against my practice.
One was regarding martial arts being useless in contemporary combat. Of course, we have guns, airplanes, missiles.
The other one comes from mindful practitioners. They say, “I don’t like being violent.”
Many years ago I read an interview with a boxer who survived WWII. They asked him, “Have you ever used boxing in a battle?”
“I believe it saved my life,” he said. “I could think faster, move faster and pull the trigger faster than my enemy.”
The weapon doesn’t shoot. The brain does. What many people think about martial arts is often inaccurate. We can see sports in the ring. We can watch nice choreography in the movies. We can do a good cardio workout at the gym. All this is good. But that is just a tip of the iceberg.
The foundation is a brain training and body conditioning. It is about being centered, being present in the moment. That’s why Shaolin temple has been using martial arts for many centuries. That’s why you can see such Zen practices as archery or sword techniques. Do you really think Zen archery is about violence?
Mindfulness today…
Nowadays, mindfulness is on the rise. There are multiple researches done about great health benefits of mindful practices. I think, Martial Arts practice is the best multi-purpose tool available today, whether you like physical conditioning, or self defense. Or maybe you’re concerned about brain development and Alzheimer’s prevention. Or you may simply like to be more focuses in every day life. Think about it.
