What Does True Success Mean To You?
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope life is treating you great wherever you are! Let’s breathe and smile.
A son of an immigrant came to his father who owned a small store, and said, “Dad, I cannot understand how you run this place. Your accounts payable are in a cigar box, all your cash is in a register. You don’t even know what your profit is.”
“Son,” the man answered, “when I came to this country many years ago, all I owned was a pair of pants I was wearing. Now, your sister is an art teacher, your brother is a doctor, and you are a CPA. Your mother and I own a house, a car and this little store. Combine all of that, subtract one pair of pants, and there will be your profit.”
Well, I am an immigrant myself. My kids are the first generation americans. I often ask myself, what do I have to show, what did I achieve? But then I have to remind myself, that achievements in life are not all tangible. That’s not necessarily about the number of cars, houses, etc. And there’s nothing wrong with that as long as they don’t own us.
To me, success is defined by our ability to live in a place we like with people we love. To me, it is about being able to do what we enjoy. To me, it is about seeing other people benefit from what we are doing. To me, it is about having inner peace and living in harmony with the surrounding world.
To me personally, it is about my ability to learn, to grow, to create and to help other people change their lives. What does success mean to you? Think about it.
